So, we made our Easter Saturday instead of Sunday so that my sister could come. She always wants to make it so hard on herself. Instead of just relaxing and going with the flow, she takes it upon herself to do everything, thinking a holiday just isn't a holiday unless you overdo it and stress. The town had their Easter egg hunt, but we all decided to skip it since the Easter Bunny always comes to grandmas anyway. It seems to be more magical all the way around when we are at grandmas. Anyway, I hid a few eggs around the house for the kids to wake up to. Emma was the first one, who had an egg sitting right on her bedpost. I usually don't talk about holiday figures too terrible much, but for some reason I still heard, "GASP! Oooooo bunny!"
She shook her egg and came into my room. "Mama, wakkkup! Bunny!" *shake, shake, shake*
So, I got right up and we woke up Yaya and noosie to help find eggs. Every time Emma found one, she would put the previously found egg down on the floor to shake the new egg. It wasn't until we were all done that I showed her they opened and there was real, live sugary garbage inside. Oooooo! Bunny!
They all ate some cereal and drank milk before starting their sugar binge of the season. Luke and Yaya sorted jelly beans and Emma shook her eggs like canastas. I went upstairs to put in a couple of hours of work before the walk down to Grandmas for lunch and more egg hunting.
Dean's Girlfriend, Amber, was over to share the fun and I decided to set up clues for them to find their baskets.
The clues are set up in eggs. I hand them the first egg, lamely try to write a rhyming clue that will take them to the next egg, making them walk all over hell and back before they find their basket, which may or may not be 12 inches from where they started. Its pretty hilarious. I think Amber thought we were all crazy, but enjoyed herself. The younger kids find their baskets, hidden according to age. Luke is getting old enough now, I might need to utilize the clues for him next year. All in all, they got a ton of candy, lots of little toys and fun things and, on Thursday, I see that all that is left is gum and a couple of jaw breakers.
Sunday was nice and prompted an impromptu BBQ. Curt and I left the kids with Grandpa and ran to town for steaks and hot dogs. Curt's best friend Tom came over and while they fired up the grill, I dug a fire pit in the back yard. It was almost like spring for a minute.
Emma was having a hard time. It may have been just the fact that we were outside all day working in the yard and coloring on the sidewalk, but she kept falling over and tripping. I kind of knew she was really getting tired and after the third digger, I gave her a kiss and asked if she was tired. "Nigh Nigh TIME!!!" she screamed and we went inside to get cleaned up. as soon as I got a fresh diaper on her, she ran into my room and snuggled under the covers. I sat with her for a second, but she shooed me out. "Nigh nigh time mama."
I left her and went back out with the kids to roast marshmallows. I found these giant ones at the store that Yaya said looked like rolls of toilet paper.
I should probably mention that I planted bulbs this weekend after spending the previous weekend digging up the frightful flower beds in front of the house. There were enough roots and small trees growing in there, it was quite the task, but with some work, they were all dug up and filled with pretties. I also got 2 burning bushes to flank either side of my entryway and I have a Japanese maple that needs a home...not sure where its going yet. IF the weather ever cleans up, I would like to move some of the day lilies that have gone wild behind the house and Curt has been cutting down the overwhelming amount of rogue lilac trees. It seems this yard had not been maintained at all for 15 years according to the neighbor and some effort is seriously overdue. On the plus side, there are free plants everywhere.
