I really wanted to take the kids to the fair yesterday. The fair here in town is very small and just not as exciting as the huge fair in town, so I thought the kids would think it was fun to go and get a wristband and ride rides until they just can't stand it. They have a wristband deal there that they can ride as much as they want for 16 dollars each. I had enough for the two of them to get bands and I thought Emma and I could hang out in the craft and animal barns, doing a wristband swap at the end so Emma could have a ride or 2 before we left (yes, I'm that cheap). Considering the fact that you could not even get a drink of water for less than 2 dollars, I am justified in a little wristband swapping. It was a good plan in theory, but it was so beastly hot that it took me less than an hour to start feeling ill. Lucas was feeling it too and was not into riding rides simply because no matter how tame, he turned green. strolling through the animal and craft barns proved to be like trying to find your way through a hot plastic bag. Miserable. We spent the remainder of our 10 dollars on ice water and poor Lucas was absolutely green the whole time. We should have stayed home. Before we left for the day though, I swapped wristbands with the older kids and put Yaya's on Emma and Luke's on me so Emma could have a turn on a couple of rides. I'm telling you, my kids do not throw tantrums in public, but Emma actually would throw back her head and scream every time a ride would end. We managed three before I had enough of her embarrassing bull and took her home. As soon as we got into the van and turned the air on, she was out like a light. Tired and hot obviously exacerbates tantrum.
We did have some fun though and have a few pictures to show for it.
Getting buckled in for the fair!! Oooooo
Looks like Buster--only she's a she and pregnant...
Niiiice goat. Emma's word for petting anything is Niiiiiice...
This is a Brahma bull. There were quarter machines that you
could put money in and get food for the critters. Emma found it more effective to just throw the food at them.
Crazy-head chickens
Emma and this goose had a lot of things to say to each other.
Baby puppies and kitties. This is the same breeder I had gotten my Squirt-R-Bug from years ago...
Pretantrum number 1.
Pretantrum number 2 and 3.
Poor Luke had a miserable time. So sick. this was only his second ride and already it was starting out bad.
We tried to take a break in the craft barn and make puppets, but the craft barn was even hotter.
Yaya did a little better in the heat.
But found the craft barn intolerable.
When we got home, I delivered some Milk-of-mag to my dad and we sat in the air conditioning for a while.
Luke was feeling much better and gave Emma a horsey ride.
I taught Emma how to spank her horse and yell "YAH!!"
this would be an action shot..hehe.
